CINEMATOGRAPHY: Michael Gioulakis
Michael Gioulakis is a Director of Photography and Cinematographer. Here we take a look at some of his excellent work, stills and a trailer for his latest feature film.
Gioulakis’ credits include M. Night Shyamalan’s 2016 psychological thriller Split and Glass (2018). He was also the cinematographer for It Follows - the 2014 American supernatural horror film written and directed by David Robert Mitchell.
Gioulakis stated that, “I gravitate to films that are visually abstract and more about mood and tone. A David Lynch film, for example, can be like a piece of music. And I think, unconsciously, my approach to learning the craft was informed by the years I spent practicing the trumpet for hours a day. It’s a discipline and an ongoing balance. I love both the technical and artistic aspects of camera, and mastering them is a means to an end — creating the images that the director wants.”

Gioulakis’ website features highlights of his already impressive resume work, including this gem - a collaboration with filmmaker Barry Jenkins (who later went on to direct the superb 2016 film Moonlight )
